Dear supporters and friends of WVAG, 6 September 2021
It is with hesitation and sadness that I am writing this letter to you all in order to inform you that War Veterans Assistance Group, Incorporated will cease operations on 1 October 2021. We started this charity with helping veterans in mind and we have been able to support literally hundreds of requests for assistance and help soldiers across the State of Vermont since May of 2012. Since that time, we have had great moments and experienced the satisfaction of knowing that we were able to make a difference in the lives of struggling soldiers or their family members lives. We have had times when it seemed nearly impossible to continue due to lack of funds or difficulty in raising funds in order to sustain our operation. Thankfully and without fail however, you, our supporters, have made the difference and allowed us to continue to help veterans in need. Through fund raising events like golf tournaments and solicitations as well as grants, calcuttas and just plain old contributions, we have been able to say “yes” to those in need.
New money from increased Government Programs, incentives by large companies and a larger number of charities throughout the State have decreased the number of requests that we have received over the last few months and we feel that now is the time for us to step back and give others the opportunity to take the lead and support our very deserving veterans and their families.
So, now we find ourselves at a crossroads and as life continues to offer it’s own challenges to each of us, we have come to the conclusion that it’s time for other charities to step up and meet the void that we will create by our absence. Promotions, deaths and increased responsibilities that have accelerated and increased in each of our lives has brought about the decision to cease operations.
Our remaining funds will be transferred to other Vermont based charities for support of Vermont Veterans. There are many established charities that our vets can depend on for support and we feel comfortable in knowing that their needs will be met.
Finally, we want to express our deep appreciation to those who have stuck with us through thick and thin, through the good times and the rough times and everywhere in between. A sincere thank you goes out to each one of you for all that you have helped to create and share with veterans in need. Please continue to help when you can and keep our veterans healthy and looking to the future. God bless you all and from Steve, Jim, Scott, Andy and myself, thank you! Sincerely, Robert B. Delorme, President, War Veterans Assistance Group, Incorporated.
