Working in conjunction with Vermont Blue Star Mothers and War Veterans Assistance Group are happy to announce that six comfort dogs have been placed with Vermont veterans! These dogs provide a release and acceptance for those who need a companion and help to get through a tough time in their life such as PTSD sufferers. All of these dogs are rescued animals that are trained and readied by professional personnel and people who care…for the veterans and they go to veterans homes as soon as they are certified “ready” by the pros. This program has been hugely successful and is the first of it’s kind based on surrounding circumstances! What a tribute to the Blue Star Mothers and the people they help serve and WVAG is honored to be a part of it! Beetle Bailey, Mazie, Scooter, Rusty and Diego are hard at work in the field and Chopper, Jigsaw, Grinch, Dexter, Magnolia, Shadow and Harley are preparing to go to work providing relief to our veterans. When these dogs are placed into a home, they come with leash, crate, food, vetted, collars ad harnesses. Great job everyone and continued success!
On 7 November, 2015, a Calcutta was held in Enosburg Falls at the American Legion Hall by War Veterans Assistance Group. This event was just another example of soliciting participation from Northern Vermont Residents in order to raise money in support of Vermont’s Veterans that need some relief from hardship for themselves or members of their family. There was a real sense of patriotism in the building and people in attendance displayed a huge amount of support for these veterans and for War Veterans Assistance Group and what they do on behalf of Vermont’s own! The money raised here tonight will come in handy during the holidays which historically has been a tough time for many veterans and their families. A light hearted, generous and fun loving crowd brought the community closer together albeit for just one night but this display of how communities can come together in support of their soldiers was a true “spirit of Vermont” moment for everyone in attendance! Thank you to everyone that made this a memorable evening and a better holiday season for those veterans who need it and supported us when we needed their help in defense of our great country. Happy holidays everyone!
On 9 December, 2015, the War Veterans Assistance Group finalized the awarding of a Rob Gronkowski Autographed Football and the winner was Kathy Harrison. Nearly 200 tickets were sold and when the drawing occurred, there were a lot of disappointed folks on hand but the winner is very happy to have been drawn and expressed that her sons will be very pleased to be the recipients of this treasured item that they will receive for Christmas from their mom! We want to thank everyone that participated in the raffle and look forward to offering more rare sports memorabilia in the near future…all in an effort to raise money to help out Vermont Veterans! Thank you to the New England Patriots Organization and the Craft Family for their generous support and thank you to everyone who bought the raffle tickets in order to make this event a huge success!
On 22 May, 2016, WVAG held a golf tournament at the Enosburg Falls Country Club. The tournament was a huge success and everyone enjoyed the day while raising money in support of Vermont Veterans who may be experiencing difficult times. The day was a tribute to the huge support base in northern Vermont for all Veterans in the Green Mountain State. Golfers were treated to a meal, prizes and several contests were held to help raise additional funds for the cause. Family members, friends and acqaintences experienced 18 holes of golf on a fantastic golf course, a great meal, prizes and raffles to include a round trip air fare to any domestic USA city sponsored by Jet Blue, a silent auction for a signed Tom Brady photograph, giveaways and too many other things to mention…even an opportunity to win a car and another to win $10,000! What a great day of fun and just a “feel good”time for everyone! Thank you to all of our sponsors and friends who volunteered their time and money to make this tournament a great success! Here are a few photos of the day’s activities for you to look at, laugh at and generally see the fun time had by all!
The Classic Mike Loyer Foundation contributed $1000 to War Veterans Assistance Group for the second year in a row on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. The Foundation supports local causes and has been a great supporter of War Veterans Assistance Group, Incorporated… helping Vermont Veterans!
Members of both organizations were on hand for the presentation and each offered words of support for Vermont’s Veterans and their families. Each year, since it’s creation, the Classic Mike Loyer Foundation has raised thousands of dollars for their cause and play a key role in the Burlington community and surrounding areas providing much needed assistance to families who have lost a loved one to a tragic accident in the work place or an untimely death was experienced in the family. The Foundation, is named after it’s name sake, Mike Loyer who died tragically in a construction accident. WVAG would like to take this opportunity to thank the Foundation and it’s Board members for their unending desire to help people in need! Thank you to them for their donation!
